Common Q & A:

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural form of health care. It is based on the scientific fact that one’s health is directly related to the health of one’s nervous system. Since the nervous system is contained within the spine, if any of the vertebra shift out of alignment it can adversely affect the nervous system and manifest with pain, sickness or disease. These misalignments are called subluxations. Chiropractors are trained to locate and treat these subluxations to remove the nerve interference and restore proper joint motion in these vertebra.

What are Subluxations?

Simply put, a subluxation is a vertebra that is out of alignment and pinching a nerve. It is actually more complex than this, but that is the most simple way to state it without getting too technical

What is an adjustment?

An adjustment is a method of treatment chiropractors use to restore proper motion and alignment to the spine.  It is gentle and specific to the needs of the patient.  Sometimes a "crack" is heard when an adjustment is given, other times there is no sound at all during treatment.  Just as medical doctors have a variety of medications to choose from for treatment, chiropractors have a variety of adjustments they are able to utilize and customize according to what works best for the patient.

Does it hurt?

Generally, treatment does not hurt.  Although you may be sore initially, much like what you may experience after strenuous physical activity, it is not unusual for symptoms to get worse before you feel better.

How long is each visit?

Please allow 30-45 minutes on your first visit and if possible, bring your completed patient forms with you.  Following visits will last an average of 5 minutes.  This can vary depending on the type of treatment given.

Why visit a chiropractor even if I'm not in pain? Pain is a poor measure of whether or not the problem has been fixed.  Pain is the last thing to show up and the first to go away.  A tooth has significant amounts of decay before it starts hurting.  It is human nature to wait until the pain "won't go away" before seeking care.  Preventive chiropractic care will detect and correct any spinal misalignments to keep your body moving well.

Does Insurance cover chiropractic?

Generally speaking, most insurance plans cover chiropractic care.  However, please contact us and we will be glad to see if your specific plan covers chiropractic care.
